  • Arab Marine Service Co.and staff have extensive experience in a broad range of Marine and non-marine investigative quantitative surveys which can be broadly categorized (but not exhaustive) around the following:-:

    1. Steel inspections - for exporters, Shippers, Protection and Indemnity Associations (on behalf of Ship Owners), for Trading Houses and their Insurers. Furthermore, we maintain a team of dedicated "In-House" tally staff;

    2. Grain Inspections - sampling, supervision and on-site analysis, this would also include hold cleanliness inspections, draft (and quantity by deadweight or silo) surveys;

    3. Vegetable oil surveys - sampling and analysis surveys covering Palm Oil products, Sunseed oil. Tank calibration by ullage or dips. Fertilizers and mineral shipments - sampling, supervision and on-site analysis to include hold cleanliness inspections, draft (and quantity by deadweight or silo) surveys.

    4. Ship inspections - On-Hire condition and bunker surveys, cargo compartment salinity tests, damage investigation, cleanliness surveys and supervision of hold cleanliness requirements.

    5. Inland transport inspections - inspecting means of conveyance for cleanliness, water tight integrity, security and weight.

    6. Load and discharge supervision - acting as Port Captain and Owners representatives to minimise delays in loading and discharge, covering all cargoes, whether same is bulk or break bulk shipments.

Marine surveys


  1. On / Off Hire Survey :- inspection of the vessel's technical condition at delivery / re-delivery into/from Time Charterers / Disponent Owners service, including general condition of hull, deck, cargo compartments and deck machinery, examination of certificates etc.

  2. Damage Survey :- includes a detailed description of the ascertained damages to the vessel's hull, machinery or other "onboard" equipment such as deck cranes, description of repair work, supported with conclusions, evidenced with photographs.

  3. Hatch Cover Watertight Testing :- non destructive methods of water tight inspection using chalk, water or specialist ultrasound equipment, prior to loading and also could be conducted as part of the vessel's technical condition survey.

  4. Suitability Survey :- performing of a visual inspection of all the holds internal construction and the ships general condition to ascertain the suitability of the vessel for the intended voyage, noting defects or deficiencies, if any, that would affect the vessel's performance.

  5. Holds / Tank Cleanliness Inspection :- prior to loading, examination of the condition of cargo carrying compartments or enclosed holds / tanks, in accordance with Internationally accepted cargo transportation norms and requirements and corroborated by inspection certificate and photographic details

  6. Sealing / Unsealing Hatch Covers & Entries :- to prevent unauthorized access to the vessels cargo carrying compartments when on passage and requires applying/breaking seals to/from every possible cargo compartment access.

  7. Salinity Testing:- to determine the presence of chloride deposits on the hold internal steelwork prior to loading a cargo of steel products, using a solution of silver nitrate, prepared in conformity with International Recognised Standards, for which a certificate from a competent laboratory will be attached.

  8. Investigation of Marine Accidents :- collecting detailed information and evidence from all participants of the accident including interviewing the parties involved, investigation on behalf of Principals with proper protection of their interests and due diligence, with conclusion and remarks supported by photographic details.

  9. Technical Examination of Vessels:- conducting an overall superficial visual inspection of the vessel which would include ascertaining the physical condition of the vessel's hull, cargo holds/ hatches, accommodation superstructure, deck and engine room machinery, fire fighting, navigation and life-saving equipment, auditing the ship's Certificates.

Dry Cargo Supervision

  1. Draft Survey :- determination of bulk cargo quantity loaded or discharged for the benefit of Principals. Report includes draft calculations and as an addendum, a tank sounding report for the ballast / fresh water or fuel tanks with a Letter of Reserve, if necessary.

  2. Tally Service :- cargo piece count (all steel products, general and frozen cargoes) throughout the process of loading or discharging to / from vessel holds, rail wagons or trucks; rejecting of damaged bags, cases, units etc, supported by daily reports, tally sheets and Final Tally Report. Paint separation or marking of the cargo loaded onboard can also be performed.

  3. Re-Weighing :- determination of weight, quantity of cargo by re-weighing each railway wagon, road truck or other means of conveyance during loading/discharging operations, supported by re-weighing calculations and tables, determination of average weight of bags, drums; issuing of Weight / Quantity Certificate.

  4. Supervision of Loading / Discharging :- includes round the clock control of cargo operations, noting all delays, rejecting cargo which is not in conformity with Principals instructions or contractual specification or according to mutually agreed Standards of specification and quality, followed by daily and final reports with photographs.


  5. Superintendency of Dry Bulk Cargo :- the Company is proficient in attending the loading of grains, oilseeds, pulses, fertilisers and mineral cargoes to determine weight and contractual quality. Being a registered Superintendent of GAFTA qualifies our integrity of inspection.

  6. Cargo Damage Survey :- covers a detailed report of damage ascertained, loses, reasons and cause. Investigating the reasons for the damage to the cargo, supported by evidence, documents and photographs.

  7. Pre-loading Cargo Survey :- inspecting the general condition of various cargoes (metal products, general cargoes and refrigerated products) prior to and concurrently with the loading / discharging, which includes estimation of overall degree of degrade, preliminary findings reflecting the cargo pre-loading condition and final findings which reflect the cargo loading/discharging condition at the time of the inspection and reporting.

  8. Quantity / Quality Verification of Goods :- includes supervision of loading / discharging cargo, determination the cargo quality according to agreed Clients Contract specification and standards. Rejecting cargo which does not meet the required quality specifications, issuing of Certificate of Quality/Quantity.

  9. Loss Prevention Consultation & Practical Solution :- we can consult with our Clients and advise ways to avoid / prevent losses of cargo and suggest the practical solutions and performance

  10. Lashing / Choking & Securing Supervision / Assessment - Having a wealth of practical experience supervising the loading and supervision of steels, general cargo, project shipments and heavy lift cargoes, the strength and depth of our knowledge can be drawn upon to ensure that ocean passages are undertaken with the minimum of risk and out-turn damage.

Liquid Cargo Assessment

  1. Ullage Survey - used to determine the quantity of liquid cargo loaded or discharged. Report includes required calculations, Certificate of Quantity, timesheet and other supporting documents.

  2. OBQ / ROB Measurements :- process of calculation the material remaining in ship's tanks and pipelines, including water, oil, slops, oil/water emulsions, sludge and sediments. The survey includes accurate measurements and issuing OBQ/ROB calculation report.

  3. Measurement Survey on Shore and Rail Tanks :- in the course of this type of survey we carry out simultaneous measurements on shore tanks, railway wagons and the vessel to keep under watchful control the full scope of loading / discharging procedures.

  4. Bunker Survey:- is an ullage / sounding survey carried out to ascertain the quantity of all bunkers remaining on board at the date and hour of survey, with same to be used as a datum point for the bunkers remaining on delivery/re-delivery of the vessel to Charterers service. The Survey could be done as an integral part of On/Off-hire Survey. Alternatively, careful and controlled assessment of hydrocarbon loaded or discharged.

  5. Liquid Cargo Damage Survey:- the long experience of AMS, can determine the reasons of cargo contamination, leakage and loss of cargo. The report will include full detailed description of investigation fulfilled and laboratory analysis if required.

  6. Supervision of Loading / Discharging :- includes 24 hour control of cargo operations, noting all delays and operation procedures, followed by daily and final reports.

  7. Sampling & Laboratory Analysis:- AMS has an "In-House" laboratory which can perform analysis according to ISO Standards to such cargoes as vegetable and crude oils and fuels. Also, our company has a long-term relations with a group of specialized Odessa and regional laboratories which can provide a corroborative service to all of our Clients.

None Marine Investigations

  1. Damage Survey :- AMS carry out damage inspection for various types of road (trucks, trailers, cars etc.) and rail transport units (locomotives, railway wagons), Dry and Reefer containers. The final report supported with photographs of all ascertained defects, damages, repair works and a full set of technical documentation.

  2. Site Survey - Inspection of various sites such as Terminals, Warehouses, Refineries and other constructions, including associated cargo handling equipment.

  3. Inspection on behalf of Underwriters, P & I Associations - varying styles of inspection can be carried out by AMS for and on behalf of Insurance Underwriters, Protection & Indemnity Associations, Banks and Transport Clubs. These inspections can include, Pre-Shipment risk inspections, Collateral Management assessment, Damage survey, Pre-Entry Evaluation, infact any appraisal or survey to the Clients specific instructions.

  4. Consultants & Assessors:- AMS manned with experienced professionals who have a wealth of knowledge on the local and International markets, ports/factory regulations, shipping and transport organisations are ready to assist our Clients in all aspects of transportation by sea or land conveyance.

  5. Inland Warehouse / Silo Cargo Inspection - Under the instructions of Principals, AMS has the capability of inspecting grains/seeds/pulses at inland warehouses or silo, checking the Warehouse Receipts, sighting the condition of storage, assessing the physical characteristics of the product and reporting.

Container Surveys

One of the options provided by Arab Marine Service is rendering of inspection services for cargoes carried in containers, both FCL and LCL. Representatives of our company can perform inspections of container cargoes at all stages of transportation beginning with the loading of cargo into containers at shipper's warehouse and ending with the delivery of cargo to a receiver, Inspection services provided as follows:

  1. Visual inspection of containers during loading / discharging operations
  2. Inspection of seals fixed to containers, additional sealing if necessary
  3. Supervision of the order of loading on board the vessel to be in conformity with a cargo plan.
  4. Inspection of loading into containers, refrigerators
  5. Inspection of containers for cleanliness, integrity, tightness to prevent damage of the cargo during transportation and estimation of their suitability for carrying intended cargo.
  6. Cargo loading calculation, visual inspection of condition of cargo and packaging at point of origin and/or prior to being loaded, including stowage.
  7. Verification of quantity actually loaded into a container to declared quantity.
